| Ken [ANI] Ken was the young man in the Lost City (e62.01:22) who tried to have Scott Bernard, Rand, and Annie killed by delivering them into an Invid trap. Ken had apparently had some sort of relationship with Annie, and according to her, had even promised to marry her (e62.04:46). She wanted him to run away with her and start a family (e62.01:59), but Ken decided he couldn't, reminding her that the city was his home, his family was there and that if he left, he could never come back (e62.01:50). Despite the toughness of his outward persona when dealing with Annie, he reveals pieces of his softer, more humane side. On a few occasions the firmness in his voice breaks and his words are spoken with a regretful, sympathetic tone. At one point, he gently tries to reason with Annie saying phrases like, "please try to understand" (e62.01:46) and "don't you see, I have no choice" (e62.01:38). Still, Ken's commitment to the city and its rules took priority over all else, and he was in the process of dragging Annie out of Lost City when Scott and Rand pulled up on their Cyclones (e62.05:28). The Lost City had decayed to a lowly state (e62.06:38), and the fears and paranoia of the refuges that resided there resulted in a rule that required the eventual banishment of all "outsiders" like Annie (e62.01:46). Another rule, undoubtedly conceived in fear and the basic human desire to survive the Invid occupation, required them to sacrifice any resistance fighters that entered the city in order to save themselves (e62.15:15). Scott and Rand were no exception, and as soon as they arrived (e62.05:28), Ken directed them to the smaller, isolated island of the Lost City and let Annie unknowingly lead them the rest of the way (e62.07:36) into the Invid's trap. Scott, Rand and Annie survived the ambush and caught up with Ken, angry and eager for an explanation (e62.14:58). In his defense, he stated that, "I only did it to save the others" (e62.15:05) and he told Scott that if the people of the city resisted the Invid, they "would be totally wiped out" (e62.15:07). Soon, an angry mob appeared demanding that Scott and Rand leave the city immediately. All the weary people of the city wanted to do was "live in peace, even if it [meant] doing without freedom" (e62.15:56). They felt the presence of soldiers would only "aggravate the whole situation" (e62.15:50), and so Scott, Rand and Annie left the city in a could of dust, leaving Ken and the Lost City behind. -Macross Note: This subject appears in other sources as well. Information from these additional sources that mirrors any of the content above has been omitted from the following entries to prevent redundancy. [NOV] Ken was a "streetwise eighteen-year-old" known for his "dirty tricks and mean-spirited nature" though he could be a "charmer when he needed to be" (b10.03.40). He had "grown bored" with Annie, and had his sights fixed on a new girl that he just recently entered the city (b10.03.40).
