[VER] Corporal Hiro Amano was a Veritech pilot trainee assigned to Lt. Rick Hunter's Vermilion Squadron during the First Robotech War. Ten days after the SDF-1 returned to Earth, Hiro in VF-142 found himself and another member of Vermilion slated for Combat Air Patrol over an area of the Pacific Ocean designated Sector 7. Hiro's flight leader took time during the patrol to work on some maneuvers with him, but soon had to return to base to refuel. Hiro decided he had enough fuel left to practice for a few more minutes and continued to do so alone until he saw a Zentraedi battlecruiser emerge from a bank of clouds. He was then shocked again to see Valkyrie's from the SDF-1's Crimson Squadron land inside the ship. Before Hiro could escape and warn someone the leader of Crimson Squadron, the traitorous Raven detected and then killed him. Despite Lt. Hunter's search and rescue efforts, no trace of Hiro's ship was found and a review board investigating the incident listed Corporal Hiro Amano as AWOL.

Amano left behind his mother, who although did not want him to join the RDF, was proud of him and saddened by his disappearance. -Macross
