[NOV] The Accord of 2022 was a agreement put forth by the United Earth Goverment in 2022 which dictated that the Robotech Defence Force and Army of the Southern Cross would become one force, the Earth Defense Force.

The UEG created the EDF in an attempt to cement an easy peace between the remaining forces of the Robotech Defense Force not absorbed by the Robotech Expeditionary Force and the Army of the Southern Cross by uniting them in one organization under one flag. Rifts, and later hostilities developed between the peoples of the two forces as a result of events which took place the during the Malcontent Uprisings such as Operation Tiger; in which the ASC used political and military force to pressure the RDF into mandatory micronization of Zentraedi and the Brasilia Massacre; in which ASC forces attacked a peaceful Zentraedi civil rights demonstration killing 1,100 Zentraedi, 44 sympathizers and 86 bystanders.

During the time of the Malcontent Uprisings, such anti-Zentraedi actions were common in the ASC dominated Southlands where Malcontent activities were frequent, creating an consensus of hate and mistrust for the Zentraedi. As a result, Leonard and his ASC, who killed many Zentraedi in the name of Malcontent suppression, were made out to be the heroic protectors and saviors to the peoples of the Southlands. This attitude was less present in the more civilized and safer Northlands which was dominated by the RDF who fiercely disapproved of the ASC's actions.

The root of the hostilities lay with the ASC's Supreme Commander, Anatole Leonard, and his negative attitude of the RDF. He was fiercely xenophobic and hated the RDF's friendly relationship with aliens whose Rain of Death wiped out most of Earth. He also feared that the RDF contingent would welcome the arrival of the alien Robotech Masters and would offer to share Earth with them as they had with the Zentraedi. He had personal vendettas against Rick Hunter and Lisa Hayes, who were prominent figures in the RDF, because Rick unknowingly left behind the badly burned and wounded Leonard in the ruins of the Alaskan Grand Cannon when he saved Lisa Hayes. So when the REF left for Tirol and left behind a weakened remnant of the RDF, Leonard seized the opportunity to try to eliminate the RDF politically and militarily.

The UEG hoped that by uniting the forces of Earth under one organization and flag, they would put aside their differences and cooperate. The plan was an utter failure and by 2029, low-intensity conflicts had turned into full scale battles. The ex-RDF and ex-ASC elements of EDF peace keeping forces which were dispatched often to the skirmish-ridden Southlands often ended up conflicting over one issue or another and would revert back to their old loyalties and fight against each other. Ex-ASC soldiers, who comprised the majority of the EDF, looked forward to the prospect of finally riding themselves of the alien-friendly 'Robies' and the ex-RDF soldiers equally looked forward to the prospect of riding themselves of a few more 'Crossers'. At the apex of hostilities, a coup attempt erupted into battle between ex-RDF and ex-ASC forces in the very streets of Monument City.

The coup was defeated but changes were made as a result. Before 2031, the EDF and the Accord of 2022 were dissolved. The ASC portion of the EDF was reinstated and the RDF portion of the EDF was merged with and transformed into the Global Military Police. Both the ASC and GMP were completely autonomous and used different war machinery, combat forces and intelligence networks. Within the UEG, they maintained a balance of power by checking and balancing one another. -Macross
