.....Welcome to The
Robotech Compendium! .....Be advised, this feature is under
heavy construction and most links are not enabled at this
time as I am in the process of writing a whole new
generation of highly-detailed entries. I recommend
viewing the Sera and Corg entries to see examples of this
new entry style. I also recommend seeing the Veritech entry to see an
example of the new entry/image-gallery organization of
the Compendium. Eventually, all entries will be as
detailed and image-laden as these.
The
origin
.....The
origins of this feature can be traced back to
early-November of 1997 (yes, 1997). Back then I was an
extraordinarily active poster on the Disciples of Zor
message board and I spent the vast majority of my free
time writing and researching essays and arguments
revolving around the debates that raged there. I found
that I had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge of all
things Robotech, and an equally powerful passion to
commit myself to finding explanations and answers to
everything I wanted to understand more clearly (though in
retrospect, I can see how one might easily mistake this
intense preoccupation as an unhealthy obsession).
Regardless, this pursuit lead me to the realization that
my life would not be complete until I had created the
first all-encompassing Robotech encyclopedia. The most
current evolution of this pursuit is what you see before
you.
The
sources
.....The Robotech
story exists in several different forms; a Japanese anime
series (or anime), an adult novelization, a graphic
novel, the sourcebooks of the role playing game and many
comic series. Each version is generally compatible with
the others, but often the details from one source
conflicts with those of one (or more) of the other
sources. I wanted The Robotech Compendium to be a
universal and unbiased Robotech resource and organized it
to allow subjects to have separate entries for each
applicable source. For example, an anime entry on a
subject (labeled [ANI]) only contains information from the
anime. A novel entry on a subject (labeled [NOV]) only contains
information from the novels, etc.
Source
Abbreviation Key
[ANI]
-
Robotech anime series, produced by Carl Macek
[GNOV] - Robotech: The Graphic Novel
[MEG] - Robotech: Megastorm comic series, by
Antarctic Press
[NOV] - Robotech novelization, written by Jack
McKinney
[RPG] - The Robotech Role Playing Game, written
by Kevin Siembieda
[RTM]
-
Robotech: Return to Macross comic series, by Eternity
[TMU] - Robotech II: The Sentinels - The
Malcontent Uprisings comic series, by Eternity
[VER] - Robotech: Vermilion comic series, by
Antarctic Press
The
internal citations
.....I wanted The
Robotech Compendium to contain only factual information,
a distinction that formally classifies it as an
informational resource, not as a work of fan-fiction. In
order to ensure factual accuracy, I have begun writing
heavily researched entries that contain internal
citations which indicate the exact source of the
quotation or information they accompany. Basically, these
entries are like short research papers (and to my
knowledge, I am the first person to publish Robotech
literature in such a way).
.....As you can
imagine, entries of this nature take a lot of work and
time to compose (larger ones, like the Corg entry for example, took me over
5 hours to complete). I have not yet had the time to
evolve every entry to this stature and as a result, have
distinguished those that are up to my standards with
"-" markers. Be advised though, not
every entry that bears this marker is finished, but I'm
doing my best to complete them soon.
How
to read the internal citations
.....Anime entries have the following citation
format: (e61.04:48)
The "e61" indicates the episode number (Episode
61) and the "04:48" indicates the approximate
time within the episode (4min, 48sec).
.....Novel
entries have the following citation format: (b12.11.128)
The "b12" indicates the book number (Book 12),
the "11" indicates the chapter number (Chapter
11), and the last number indicates the page number (page
128). The page numbers only correspond with the original
paperback novels (I included the chapter number so that
fans with the 3-in-1 books will be able to utilize this
citation system).
.....RPG
entries have the following citation format: (s05.103).
The "s05" indicates the Sourcebook number (5,
which is the Invid Invasion) and the "103"
indicates the page number (page 103).
.....Comic
entries have the following citation format: (i03.12)
The "i03" indicates the issue number (Issue 3),
and the "12" indicates the page number (page
12).
The
images
.....In order to
centralize information on The Robotech Page, I have begun
to include as many images as possible with each subject's
entry. The purpose of these images is to document the
subject visually and to show additional details and
information. With over 100 images, the Veritech entry is the
crowning jewel of this new entry/image-gallery
amalgamation. All of the images currently featured in The
Compendium were created by me at some point and bear
"RP" logos to reflect that. In the future, I
may allow fans to contribute images of their own creation
(which can bear their logos or initials to ensure proper
credit is given where it is due).
Usage
of the written content of The Compendium
.....All the entries I've researched, written,
and featured here are original and tangible works of my
own creation, and hence, are copyrighted literary works.
I respectfully ask you to observe and acknowledge that
fact by not reproducing them in any form. However, I
invite and encourage you to utilize these entries as
informational references for your private writing
projects, in which case appropriate hyperlinks to The
Robotech Page should be given and/or proper citation
protocols should be observed.
.....By clicking on
the links to view these entries, I must assume that you
avow your understanding of these legal parameters.
Usage
of the images and sound files of The Compendium
.....In order to
promote Robotech and the good will of The Robotech Page,
I have decided to invite fans to save and/or use any
images or sound files contained in The Robotech
Compendium (this includes their usage on private Robotech
webpages - Yey!). In return for creating and making these
files available to you, I simply ask that you keep the
"RP" logo on the images and offer appropriate
hyperlinks back to The Robotech Page when necessary.
Please do not abuse my generosity and hard work.
